Tennyson Hat-Trick Helps #1 UCLA Beat Soccer Dons
McKinley Tennyson Jr. scored all three goals as top-ranked UCLA (4-0) defeated USF 3-0 on a hot Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles. Tennyson Jr. had his second consecutive hat trick for the Bruins. USF, playing their third game in six days against a nationally ranked team, fell to 2-4-2 on the year. Tennyson, a senior forward from Indianapolis, IN, continued his torrid scoring streak, totaling now seven goals in just three games played this year. His first goal came in the 35th minute when Bruin goalkeeper DJ Countess hurled an outlet pass to Adolfo Gregorio down the right wing. Gregorio then crossed it to Tennyson, who beat USF keeper Scott Spaulding. Gregorio and Tennyson hooked up again in the 49th minute, with Gregorio sending a cross to Tennyson, who one-timed it into the back of the net. A foul by USF defender Mike Crivello on Bruin midfielder Ty Maurin in the box set up Tennysons final goal, a penalty kick which he smoothly converted to become the first UCLA player in history to record two hat tricks in a row. USF who has played 8 games in 17 days, is off until Thursday when they play at Cal in the first round of the Santa Clara tournament. The Dons play UMKC at Santa Clara Saturday night. |
