Cameron Kolovos OT Goal Gives USF 3-2 Win In Portland

Nov. 10, 2005

Final Stats

Senior Cameron Kolovos blasted in a rebound of a Ben Dessard shot with 4:37 remaining in the second overtime to give USF a 3-2 West Coast Conference victory over Portland Thursday night in the Rose City.

For Kolovos, it was his second game-winner in the last three USF contests as he tallied the decisive goal in the 2-1 win over LMU last Friday. USF is unbeaten in its last five contests.

The win moves USF (10-5-4, 5-3-3 WCC) into a tie for second place in the WCC with 18 points along with St. Mary's. The Gaels, however have completed their WCC season and cannot earn any more points. USF is just two points behind first place Santa Clara, who also has one game remaining.

Things started well for USF with defender Kevin Long scoring his first goal of the season at 49:03 to give USF the lead.

But the Pilots (5-11-2, 2-8-1) scored the next two goals, one by Patrick Mooney at 62:02 and the second by Miguel Duante at 70:08 to take the lead.

USF fought back when freshman Ben Dessard tied the score at two with a blast from the top of the box at 75:45.

The Dons took control of the overtime and nearly won it early but Kolovos shot caromed off the post, just 23 seconds into extra time.

USF, who entered the week ranked ninth in the West, appears to have earned its second straight NCAA bid. The tournament field will be announced Monday at 1:00 p.m. on CSTV.

The Dons will complete their regular season at 1:00 p.m. Saturday when they visit Gonzaga. The Bulldogs are red-hot, having a 6-1-1 record in its last eight WCC contests and defeated Santa Clara 2-1 Thursday.
