(Santa Clara) - USF men's golf finished fourth at the 2002 Santa Clara Invitational at Silver Creek Valley Country Club Tuesday in San Jose. The Dons fired a 307 in the final round and finished with a 913 (304, 302, 307). Bay Area and West Coast Conference rivals Saint Mary's (307, 298, 293) and host Santa Clara (300, 298, 300) each shot 898, with the Gaels earning the win in a playoff.
Cal Poly took third with a 910 (299, 309, 302), while Cal State San Marcos took fifth with a 914 (306, 304, 304) to round out the top five.
USF's Robert Frye (70, 76, 78) was top finisher for the Dons with a 224 for a share of sixth place, while Tyler Pitt (77, 72, 76) was one stroke behind with 225, good for a share of eighth place.
