San Francisco, CA -- USF junior center Alan Wiggins, Jr (San Diego, Calif.) received the Fr. William Dunne Award as team Most Valuable Player and also the Top Defensive Player Award at the Annual Dons' Men's Basketball Award Dinner that was held at the Carnelian Room Friday evening in San Francisco.
Wiggins shared the Dunne Award as MVP with Armondo Surratt, who was previously honored by the West Coast Conference as "Newcomer of the Year" and was named first team all-league.
Wiggins led the West Coast Conference in blocked shots at 2.1 per game, was 12th in scoring (14.1), third in rebounding (8.3), third in field goal percentage (52.7%) and third in double-doubles.
Surratt led the West Coast Conference in assists (5.2 per game) and was ranked fourth in steals (1.8) and eleventh in scoring (14.2) in the conference
The prestigious "Art Zief, Jr. Most Inspirational Player Award" was presented to junior guard Michael Bell.
Senior Jerome Gumbs was presented with the "Sixth Man Club Team Captain Award" for team leadership, Sophomore Danny Cavic won the "Bob Giron Coaches' Award" for toughness and playing the game hard, and senior center Jason Wallace-Carter was named "Most Improved."
