Complete West Region Men's Results in PDF Format

The USF cross country teams traveled north to Eugene, Oregon to compete in the NCAA West Regional race Saturday morning at Springfield Country Club. The women, who were led by senior Fallon Heffernan, finished in 12th place, the best finish in program history.

Heffernan was the top Don in 35th place with a time of 21:22, the second best finish in school history at the NCAA Regionals. Stanford, the number one ranked team in the country won the team race with 33 points. Individual winner Teresa McWalters led them.

The Dons scored 359 points to finish seven points behind 11th place Arizona; the point total is the best in school history beating the 2004 team total of 438 points. Finishing second for the Dons was junior Michelle Born (66th, 21:49), followed by seniors Jennifer Hartford (73rd, 21:55), Zita Mezei (86th, 22:07) and Lucy Miller (101st, 22:23). Also running for the school record team was sophomore Mary Verran (142nd, 22:58) and freshman Nicole Bowler (155th, 23:14).

"I am pleased with the progress our program has made this past fall and proud of this team, they have certainly elevated the standard for San Francisco cross-country," said head coach Helen Lehman-Winters. "However, we were disappointed with our team finish today. Although Fallon ran an excellent race up front, most of our women had a difficult time maneuvering in traffic and did not compete as well as we did in our past two competitions. "

The men's race was won by Galen Rupp from the University of Oregon, who helped the Ducks capture the team title with a total of 47 points. The top finisher for USF was senior Conference Champion Cheyne Inman, who placed 56th with a time of 31:38, the top finish in school history at the Regional race.
