Volleyball Falls In The First-Round Of The Atlantic Sun Tournament :: Whitney Milled led the Bulldogs with 18 kills

Campbell University advanced in the semi-finals of the Atlantic Sun Conference Volleyball Championships with a 30-22, 30-24, 22-30, 30-16 victory over Samford University Friday afternoon at the FAU Arena.

The third seeded Camels (18-8) were led by their two second team all-conference selections Abby Jenkins and Kara Lewis. Jenkins recorded 18 kills and a .310 hitting percentage while Lewis had 15 kills, 14 digs and a .394 hitting percentage. Campbell will play the top seeded Georgia State University at 6:30 p.m. EST in the second semi-final.

The sixth seeded Bulldogs (12-20) were led by first-team all-conference performer Whitney Miller who had 18 kills, eight digs, and three blocks. Abby Miner and Angela Smith each had 12 kills. Miner added 18 digs and Krista Kettering had 10 digs and 30 assists for Samford.

Campbell used a strong blocking performance and good serving mixed with poor Samford passing to take the first two games of the match. The Camels had 10 team blocks and recorded 11 service aces for the match. It was the fourth match in a row in which Samford has had at least 10 receiving errors.

In game three, the Bulldogs were at their best. Ouldhouse served eight-straight points as Samford went on a 10-1 run to start the game. Samford hit a match-high .370 and freshman Hilary Gary had five of her six kills to force a game four.

Game four started with Samford building a quick 4-0 lead but Campbell answered with an 11-1 run to put the match out of reach. Crystal Brim who had eight services aces and 16 digs served eight consecutive points to start the run. Samford would get as close as 15-11 but the Camels went on a 15-5 run to close out the match.

In the first quarter-final match Florida Atlantic University defeated Jacksonville University 3-1. The host Owls will face the second seeded University of Central Florida at 4 p.m.EST. The championship match will be on Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. EST.
