Volleyball Wins Final Home Match

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alyssa Whitehead recorded 23 kills and 21 digs for her 18th double-double of the season in her final home match as Samford defeated Tennessee State 3-1 on Senior Night at Seibert Hall.

Hilary Gary had 19 kills and 11 digs for her second double-double and Kristin Berryman had 14 kills for the Bulldogs who improve to 12-17 overall and 6-10 in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Jennifer Corral had 15 kills and 18 digs while Thereza Wright had 15 kills for Tennessee State which falls to 7-24, 1-14 OVC.

Samford's Krista Kettering had 63 assists and 13 digs giving her 999 career digs. She will become the third Bulldog player to reach 1,000 digs if she can pick one up at Troy State on Saturday. Samford out-hit TSU .276-.147 in the match and had a 75-58 advantage in digs. The Lady Tigers out-blocked the Bulldogs 11-8.5.

The Bulldogs took the first two games 30-23 and 30-25. TSU took game three 30-27 before the Bulldogs took the fourth game 30-15 to take the match 3-1.

Samford will wrap up the regular season on Saturday when it travels to Troy State for a 4 p.m. match.
