Volleyball Falls To Eastern Illinois, 3-0

CHARLESTON, Ill. - The Samford University volleyball team (4-12, 2-5 OVC) fell to the Eastern Illinois Panthers (15-5, 7-0 OVC), 3-0 on Friday, Oct. 15 at Lantz Arena.

The Panthers won the first game, 30-24. EIU scored the first five points, while the Bulldogs fought hard to come back. When the score reached 14-6 with the Panthers in the lead, Samford called its first timeout. The offense and defense for each team was amazing at this point, as the Bulldogs caught up and were behind by only four points (24-20). EIU called its first timeout, as the Bulldogs scored the next four points. The Panthers took this game with 22 kills, eight errors and 52 total attempts with an attack percentage of .269. The Bulldogs finished this game with only 12 kills, four errors and 43 total attacks with an attack percentage of .186.

EIU dominated the second game and finished with the win, 30-18.This game stayed neck-to-neck at the beginning, as Samford called the first timeout when the score reached 17-12, with the Panthers in the lead. EIU took the lead and ran with it. Samford finished this game with eight kills, five errors and 42 total attacks with an attack percentage of .071. The Panthers recorded 20 kills, five errors and 45 total attacks with an attack percentage of .333.

The Panthers finished the match with a final-game score of 30-12. The Bulldogs fell behind early, as EIU took a 12-point lead and dominated this game. The Panthers recorded 15 kills, one error and 30 total attacks with an attack percentage of .467. The Bulldogs recorded nine kills, 10 errors and 33 total attacks with an attack percentage of -.030.

The Bulldogs will travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo. to battle Southeast, Mo. Match time is set for a 1 p.m. start.
