Volleyball Falls In Five at Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Samford volleyball team's quest for a fifth-straight victory fell short at Jacksonville University Saturday afternoon 30-19, 30-25, 16-30, 18-30, 15-10.

The Bulldogs dropped a heart breaking match 3-2 after trailing the match two games to none, the Bulldogs stormed back to take games three and four but fell 15-10 in game five. The loss drops the Bulldogs to 6-9 on the season and 2-1 in conference play. Jacksonville has now won two straight and four of its last five to move to 4-10 on the year and 2-1 in the conference.

Abby Miner and Whitney Miller each had 13 kills to lead five Bulldogs in double-figures. Miner recorded her sixth double-double of the season adding a team-high 12 digs. Angela Smith, Stefanie Pickett, and Hilary Gary all had 10 kills. Smith chipped in 10 digs for first double-double of the season. Gary's 10 kills were a career-high for the freshman.

Jacksonville was led by 14 kills from Brooke Ahrens and a double-double by Radka Dimitrova who posted 10 kills and 10 digs.

Samford out-hit the Dolphins .225-.199 and turned in a season-high 14 service aces. JU held a 12-9 advantage in blocks.

Samford will return to action on Tuesday when it travels to Jacksonville State for a 7 p.m. match up. The Lady Gamecocks lost both matches to Stetson and Jacksonville this weekend and are 4-10 on the season.

Despite the loss, Samford has won four of its last five matches. Its four-match winning streak was the longest since winning four straight during the 1997 season.
