Samford Tennis To Face Two Conference Foes In First OVC Road Weekend

March 23, 2007

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The Samford men's and women's tennis teams travel to Kentucky this Saturday and Sunday to play their first conference road weekend of the season. The Bulldogs will match up with the Colonels of Eastern Kentucky and the Morehead State Eagles.

The Samford men come of a full weekend of play in Brookhaven, Miss., where they faced Southern Miss and Alcorn State in two non-conference matches. The Bulldogs fell in a tough match to Southern Miss, 6-1, with Stuart Misner and Hank Grant taking the only doubles win at the No. 2 court and Sam Huffman claiming the only singles win at the No. 3 court. Samford bounced back the next day as they defeated Alcorn State, 6-1.

The Samford women come off a win over conference opponent Eastern Illinois. The Bulldog men and women met up with the Panthers on March 15, and Samford came out victorious in both matches. The women won by a score of 4-3; Emily White sparked her second 4-0 run at the No. 3 court to lead the Bulldogs in a come-from-behind victory over another opponent. The men defeated EIU, 7-0.

The Samford men and women will take on Eastern Kentucky on Saturday and Morehead State on Sunday. Match play will begin Saturday at noon as the women start things off with EKU. The men will follow at 2 p.m. On Sunday, the Samford women will kick things off again as they take on Morehead State at 10 a.m. The men will begin play at 1 p.m.

A full recap and results of each match will be posted at www.samfordsports.com at the conclusion of play each day.
