Softball Hosts Jamboree, Wins Four of Five Games

Sept. 29, 2002

Junior Sarah Godfrey saved the best for last at the 2002 Softball Jamboree, hitting a two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat UA-Huntsville 6-5 Sunday. The win was the fourth in five games for the Bulldogs during the two-day event.

In addition to beating UAH, the Bulldogs had three other wins. Samford beat Falkner State Community College 10-0, Wallace 8-1, and Alabama Southern 6-2. The only loss of the weekend for the Bulldogs was 4-1 to Birmingham Southern.

Sophomore outfielder Trisha Holman had seven hits and three runs in the Jamboree. Michelle Wright went 8-17 with two doubles and one run scored for the weekend. Catcher Angela Bednark had five hits, including two triples, one double and one run. Godfrey was 5-10 with three doubles and one run on the weekend.

Junior Erin Landsburg pitched 13 innings, giving up five earned runs, recording six strike-outs and picking up two wins.
