Softball Sweeps A-Sun Double Header Against UCF

March 26, 2003

Box Score

ORLANDO -- The Samford softball team swept a double header Wednesday night in Orlando, Fla., against Atlantic Sun opponent Central Florida, 3-2 in 10 innings and 5-1 in six innings.

The Bulldogs are now 18-7 overall and 4-0 in A-Sun play. The Dogs continue their road trip with a second conference double header Friday at Florida Atlantic at 5 p.m. CST. The game will be broadcast live over the Internet at www.samfordsports.com.

The Golden Knights jumped ahead in game one on a solo home run, but sophomore Kelly Smith singled to score Angela Bednark to tie the game at 1-1.

In the top of the 10th inning, Bednark was placed on second base by way of the International Tie-breaker rule. Freshman Erin Hall doubled to send Bednark home. Trisha Holman then followed with a single to plate Hall and ensure the victory of 3-2.

Holman led the Bulldogs at the plate going 3-for-5 with an RBI. Smith went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

A-Sun pitcher of the week Erin Landsburg tossed her second extra-inning game in just four days. Landsburg has pitched 30 innings in the past eight days and only allowed three earned runs for an ERA of 0.70. With the win tonight, she improves to 8-3 for the season. Landsburg struck out a career high 11 Golden Knights in the 10-inning win. She allowed five hits, two runs, one earned run and walked three.

In the night cap, UCF pulled ahead once again on a solo home run, but Samford did not let that stand. With the bases loaded, junior center fielder Abi Casillo doubled to score two runs. Senior captain Michelle Wright then followed with a single to score two more and make the score 4-1.

Hall then put an exclamation point on her day with her first career home run to give the Bulldogs the 5-1 victory.

Deanna Resmondo was 2-for-3 at the plate, and Wright was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Casillo was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Hall was 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Freshman pitcher Emilee Lewis went the distance for the win, improving her record to 7-2. She pitched six innings, allowing four hits, one run, with one strike out and one walk.
