Samford Soccer Inks Two More

April 2, 2002

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford Head Soccer Coach Todd Yelton announced the signing of two more players to National Letters of Intent on Tuesday to bring his first recruiting class to five players. Allison Provine of Lilburn, Ga., and Audrea Youngman of Alpharetta, Ga. will be joining the Bulldogs for the 2002 season.

Provine comes to Samford from the Brookwood Steamers Club team and Parkview High School in Lilburn. She played varsity soccer for Parkview for four years and in 1999 helped her team to a State Championship and a No. 12 national ranking. She has also played on the state team in the Georgia Olympic Development Program. Coach Yelton coached Provine at Parkview in 1999 and has said "It will be good to coach Allison again, because with her work rate and ability on the ball she will be able to challenge for playing time in the midfield or at forward right away."

Youngman comes to Samford from Tophat Soccer Club Team and Milton High School in Alpharetta. At Milton, Youngman was a four-year starter as well as being named the MVP for the 2001 season. She was also a Co-Captain in 2001 and in 2000 was named Defensive Player of the Year at Milton as well as to the All-County team. Youngman helped her club win the Raleigh Shootout and reach the state cup finals the past two years. Coach Yelton says of Youngman "Audrea has played and been successful at the top level in Georgia and has the skill to contribute and compete as a freshman."

Provine and Youngman join Skye Dregalla (Larkspur, Colo.), Bridgit Martin (Caldwell, N.J.), and Lori McDonnell (Lakeland, Fla.) as the 2002 freshman class. Samford returns 18 players from last season's team that finished 8-10-2.
