Samford's Stanier Earns Second OVC Player of the Week Honors

April 4, 2007

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Samford University freshman golfer Katelyn Stanier has been named OVC Player of the Week for women's golf for the second time this season. Stanier won the award about a month ago, March 7, for her third place finish in the USA Lady Jaguar Invitational.

Voted on by the conference office, the Player of the Week award goes to the conference player who has turned in an outstanding performance in the previous weeks.

Stanier picked up medalist honors at the Southern Miss Lady Eagle Classic Tuesday. She had an opening round of 76 (+5) and a second round score of 75 (+4) before rebounding with a tournament-low score of 67 (-4) in the final round to force a playoff with West Florida's Sarah Nicholson. Stanier won the tournament as she two-putted the second playoff hole to claim the first medalist honors of her career.

Stanier's performance is the first tournament win for an individual player in Samford women's golf history and her 67 is lowest tournament score in school records.
