Women's Basketball Hosts Murray State In Key OVC Matchup Thursday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford women's basketball team will play host to the Murray State Racers in an Ohio Valley Conference contest Thursday night at the Pete Hanna Center.

Samford enters the game with a record of 6-4 overall and 0-2 in Ohio Valley Conference play after a 69-60 loss to Southeast Missouri on Tuesday. Murray State is now 8-2 overall and 3-0 in league play after an 83-76 win at Jacksonville State on Tuesday.

Samford and Murray State are meeting for the seventh time, with MSU holding a 4-2 advantage in the series. Last season, Murray State won both meetings, winning, 77-63 in Murray, Ky., and by a score of 73-64 in Birmingham.

Samford is led in scoring by freshman guard Emily London, averaging 10.9 points per game. Senior guard Taryn Towns is second on the team in scoring, with an average of 9.6 points per game.

Freshman forward Savannah Hill is the team-leader in rebounding, pulling down 4.9 boards per contest. Monica Maxwell is second on the team in rebounding, averaging 3.9 rebounds per game.

Towns leads the team in assists, with an average of 3.4 per game. She also ranks second in the OVC in free-throw percentage (94.6%) and assist-turnover ratio (1.55). Hill ranks third in the league in three-point field goal percentage at 48.1 percent.
