Women's Basketball Wraps Up Home Schedule on Senior Day

Samford hosts Campbell Saturday at 4:45 p.m. in a key Atlantic Sun Women's Basektball game on Senior Day. The Bulldogs' lone senior Noot Pittman will be honored before the game which will be the second game of a doubleheader with the Samford men's team.

The Bulldogs still have an outside chance of making the conference tournament hosted by UCF in Orlando, Fla. Campbell (8-15, 4-8 A-Sun) is currently in fourth place, two games ahead of Samford (6-17, 2-10) and Gardner-Webb (3-20, 2-10). The top four teams in each division advance to the conference tournament.

Samford is coming off a 73-64 win over Gardner-Webb at home Thursday evening. The Bulldogs scored their most points of the season and shot a blistering 56 percent from the field. With only seven players dressed, Samford managed to have four players score in double figures led by Lindsey Harris and Chelsee Insell who each scored 17 points. Noot Pittman added 14 points and Cora Beth Smith chipped in 10 points. Natalie McLendon grabbed a season-high seven rebounds in the win. Harris has scored in double figures the past three games.

Campbell fell at Belmont Thursday, 72-64. Belmont's Natalie Brown scored a game-high 19 points and helped the Lady Bruins eliminate an early nine-point deficit. TheLady Camels regained the lead, 46-43 with 11 miuntes left, but Belmont went on a run to take a 12-point lead in the winding minutes. Campbell's Krsital Troy, the Atlantic Sun Player-of-the-Week, scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds Terra Guandolo added 16 points for the Lady Camels. Troy leads the team averaging 12.3 points per game.

Last time at Campbell, Jennifer Lodge scored 12 of her game-high 14 points in the second half and Samford didn't score in the final 6:01 as Campbell rallied back to defeat the Bulldogs, 49-42, at Carter Gym. Cora Beth Smith scored 10 points to lead Samford. Che' Walker added nine points. Jessica Stanley and Chantel Martin each scored 10 points for the Lady Camels. Samford only shot 21 percent (6-of-29) in the second half and shot 30 percent for the game. The Lady Camels finished the game shooting 41 percent. The Bulldogs led 42-38 with 6:01 left in the second half. Giovanni Price hit a 3-pointer and Chelsee Insell hit a running layup for Samford. Kristal Troy and Lodge scored back-to-back baskets to tie the game at 42 with 3:58 left. After two scoreless minutes, Martin made 1-of-2 free throws to give the Lady Camels the lead, 43-42, with 1:43 remaining. Campbell ended the game on an 11-0 run to take the lead for the first time since the four minute mark in the first half.

Samford and Campbell meet for the 14th time with Campbell holding a 12-1 advantage in the series. The Lady Camels won January's meeting, 49-42, in Buies Creek.

The Bulldogs have a week off before traveling to Belmont next Saturday at 2 p.m. Samford ends the regular on the road. The Bulldogs wrap up their season at Georgia State and Jacksonville.
