Women's Basketball Travels To Eastern Kentucky Saturday

RICHMOND, Ky. - The Samford women's basketball team will play at Eastern Kentucky in an Ohio Valley Conference contest Saturday afternoon at McBrayer Arena.

Samford enters the game on a six-game winning streak. The Bulldogs have a record of 13-5 overall and 6-2 in OVC play after a 61-49 win at Morehead State on Thursday. EKU is currently 9-6 overall and 4-4 in conference play after a 92-71 win over Jacksonville State on Thursday.

Samford and Eastern Kentucky are meeting for the 10th time with EKU holding a 5-4 advantage in the series. Samford has won the last four meetings in the series. Last season Samford claimed a 59-56 win in Birmingham and a 62-51 win in Richmond, Ky.

In Thursday night's win at Morehead State, Alex Munday led Samford with 18 points, 14 coming in the second half. Emily London scored 16 points, Savannah Hill had 13 points and Chika Okoli added 10 points for the Bulldogs.

For the season, Samford is led in scoring by London, averaging 12.1 points per game. Sophomore guard Monica Maxwell is second in scoring, with an average of 10.0 points per game.

Hill leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 4.8 boards per contest. Maxwell is second in the category with an average of 4.4 rebounds per game.

Senior guard Taryn Towns is the team-leader in assists, with an average of 3.6 assists per game. London ranks second on the team in assists, dishing out 2.7 assists per game.

Samford players rank in the top five in the OVC in several statistical categories. Towns is currently ranked third in assist-turnover ratio (2.03) and fourth in free-throw percentage (84.3%).

London ranks third in the OVC field goal percentage (51.8), third in three-point field goal percentage (48.6%), fifth in three-point field goals per game (1.89 pg.) and is tied for fifth in free-throw percentage (83.7%). Maxwell ranks fourth in three-point field goals per game (2.00 pg.).
