Men's Tennis Falls To Jacksonville State In OVC Finals

NASHVILLE, Tenn. ---- The Samford men's tennis team fell short of their first conference title Sunday as they fell to Jacksonville State in the finals of the O'Reilly Ohio Valley Conference Men's Tennis Championship at the Centennial Tennis Complex in Nashville, Tenn.

The Gamecocks defeated the Bulldogs, 4-1, taking two out of three doubles matches and three of four singles matches.

In singles, Manuel Miletic won the only singles point for Samford at the No. 6 court as he beat Joey Unkenholz, 6-4, 6-0. Stuart Misner fell to Bernardo Bachino at the No. 2 court (6-0, 6-3), and Kelwin De Wet lost at the No. 5 court (6-1, 6-1) to Andres Amores. Hank Grant took Chris Duke to three sets at the No. 4 court before eventually falling, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.

At the No. 3 singles court, Sam Huffman was leading Eduardo Saratt, 3-6, 6-4, 4-5, before play was suspended. Jacksonville State's Scott Robertson was leading Renan Silveira at the No. 1 court, 6-4, 3-6, 2-1.

In doubles, Silveira/Huffman fell to Robertson/Amores, 9-7, at the No. 1 court whole Dushock/De Wet lost to Bachino/Saratt, 8-4. Misner/Grant grabbed the only doubles win for the Bulldogs at the second court, defeating Duke/Unkenholz, 8-6.

The Samford men end the 2007 season with a record of 15-9, 10-3 OVC. Three Samford men were named to the All-OVC teams. Renan Silveira and Stuart Misner were selected to the first team while Hank Grant was named to the second team.
