WAYNESVILLE, N.C. - Sophomore Andy McRae shot a 1-over-par 73 on Tuesday and finished in a tie for fifth place as the Bulldogs finished sixth of 12 teams at the Western Carolina-Laurel Ridge Intercollegiate tournament.

McRae began the day in 13th position after shooting a 77 on Monday, but responded with a 73 to post the third-best round of the day. McRae's total of 150 was only two strokes away from the individual winner, High Point's Gordon Hughes. As a team the Bulldogs also moved up two spots, posting a second-round 307 to improve by 10 strokes over Monday's performance.

"I am pleased that we came out and improved from yesterday," said Samford Head Coach Mark Ware. "This is a difficult course with penalty potential on every hole, so to improve is always a positive. But I am also very excited today for Andy McRae. He has been struggling thus far this season, so to pull his game together and post the score and finish he did on a course like this one is very encouraging."

Individually, Seth Mobley shot a 79 on Tuesday for a total of 159 and finished in a tie for 30th. Seniors Mike Clements and Russell Kelly followed Mobley, Clements finishing with 160 (79-81) and Kelly 162 (84-78). Freshman Bradley Farmer rounded out the Bulldog roster with a 161 (81-80).

Host Western Carolina won the team title with a total of 612, and Gardner-Webb (620), High Point (620), South Carolina State (620) and Tennessee State (623) rounded out the Top 5. Samford (624), Belmont-Abbey (627), Catawba (627), Lenoir-Rhyne (629), Radford (629), Stetson (630) and The Citadel rounded out the 12-member tournament field.
