Moore Named Second Team All-OVC

Nov. 20, 2007

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford senior wide receiver Jeff Moore was named second team All-Conference by the Ohio Valley Conference when the league released its postseason awards on Tuesday. Freshmen Chris Evans and Thomas Gray were also named to the conference's All-Newcomer Team.

For the 2007 season, Moore, a native of Jackson, Miss., led the OVC and ranked 14th in the nation in receiving yards per game, averaging 90.5 yards per game.

Moore also ranked second in the league and 25th nationally in receptions per game, with an average of 5.55. Moore finished the season with 61 receptions for 996 yards and six touchdowns.

Chris Evans was named to the All-Newcomer team after rushing for 1,033 yards this season.

Moore finishes his Samford career with 193 receptions for 2,759 yards. He ranks third in school history in both career receptions and receiving yards.

Evans, a running back from Alexandria, Ala., became the first Samford player since 1999 to rush for 1,000 yard in a season, and he is the first Samford freshman to accomplish the feat. Evans finished the season with 185 rushes for 1,033 yards and five touchdowns. Evans finished fifth in the OVC and 40th in the nation in rushing.

Gray, an offensive lineman from Vestavia Hills, Ala., was a key member of the offensive line all season, and he started the last five games as a true freshman. He helped lead an offensive line that allowed just six sacks and helped produce Samford's first 1,000 yard rusher since 1999.
