Football Awards Myers With Charles Williams Memorial Jersey

May 15, 2006

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford senior defensive back T.C. Myers has been named the recipient of the 2006 Charles Williams Memorial Jersey, head coach Bill Gray announced on Monday.

"T.C. is a guy who epitomizes what Charles Williams stood for," Gray said. "He is also exactly what we, as coaches, are looking for in a player. He is small in stature, but has as big a heart as anyone on our team. He was selected by a vote of the coaching staff, and with input from last year's winner."

The jersey, the number five, was worn by Charles Williams, who died in a car accident on May 23, 2003. The number was not worn by anyone on the Samford team until after the 2004 season, which would have been Williams' senior season.

The honor is awarded to a different senior each season, and was given for the first time last year to wide receiver Ossie Buchannon.
