Bulldogs' Davis Named OVC Freshman Of The Week

Dec. 17, 2007

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - Samford basketball player Josh Davis was named the Ohio Valley Conference's freshman of the week Monday as the league office released its weekly awards. Davis scored a career-high 23 points in the Bulldogs' 89-61 win against Reinhardt on Saturday.

Davis, a 6-foot-4 freshman guard from Lubbock, Texas, came off the bench to score a career-high 23 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field versus Reinhardt. Despite only playing 15 minutes in the Bulldogs' 28-point victory, he tallied 13 of his game-high 23 points in the first half.

Davis entered the game midway through the first half and immediately scored 13 of Samford's next 15 points. He connected on 3-of-5 of his 3-point field goal attempts in the game and set career-highs in scoring (23), rebounds (3), assists (1), field goals (6), free throws (8), 3-point field goals (3) and minutes (15).

Tennessee Tech's Anthony Fisher and Amadi McKenzie shared the OVC's player of the week honors Monday, while teammate Charles Moore was named the newcomer of the week. All three players contributed greatly to the Golden Eagles' upset victory at Oregon State 79-62 on Sunday.

Davis and the Samford University basketball team will next be in action Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., as the Bulldogs begin a critical OVC stretch against the Southeast Missouri Redhawks in the brand-new Pete Hanna Center.
