TIPOFF: Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, 7:30 p.m. Pete Mathews Coliseum; Jacksonville, Ala.

AIR: The game can be heard on WVSU 91.1-FM and the internet at www.samfordsports.com.

SAMFORD: Samford is coming off its best performance of the season, a 70-43 victory over Jacksonville on Saturday. The Bulldogs have moved into second place in the Atlantic Sun North and are two games behind first place Belmont. Head coach Jimmy Tillette will be seeking his 100th career victory against a Jacksonville State team that the Bulldogs defeated on Jan. 20, 74-62 in Birmingham. Samford leads the A-Sun and ranks 20th nationally in FT shooting at 74.9%. The single-season Samford record is 75.9% set during the 1995-96 season. The Bulldogs are second in the nation making 9.5 three-pointers per game. Davidson College is first at 9.8 three's per contest. Phillip Ramelli leads Samford averaging 11.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Ramelli is 3rd in the A-Sun in FG percentage at 59.8 percent. The Samford record for best FG percentage over one season is 60.5 percent by Randy Morgan in 1974-75. Jon Mills is averaging 19 points and 6.5 rebounds in his last two games.

JACKSONVILLE STATE: The Gamecocks are coming off an 84-60 victory at Lipscomb on Tuesday night. JSU has lost six of it last seven conference games to fall into fourth place in the North and eighth place overall. Omar Bartlett leads the team in both points and rebounds averaging 15.8 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Poonie Richardson is scoring 14.9 points and Jay Heard chips in 12.2 points per game. The three combined for 44 of JSU's 62 points in the first meeting with Samford. The Gamecocks shoot 45% from the floor, 36% from three-point, and 68% from the free throw line. Poor free throw shooting cost the Gamecocks in the first meeting as JSU was just 9-21 from the strip in Birmingham.

INSIDE STUFF: Samford is now 43-34 all-time against Jax State after defeating the Gamecocks on Jan. 20, 74-62 in Birmingham. Jax State leads the meetings played in Jacksonville 20-14. JSU won last year's game at the Pete Mathews Coliseum 59-57.

NEXT: The Bulldogs will travel to Atlanta to face Georgia State on Saturday. The game was originally scheduled to tip at 6:30 p.m. ET but has been moved up to a 4:30 p.m. ET start because the game is a part of a homecoming double-header at Georgia State.
