Men's Cross Country Finishes First in Lousiville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Samford men's cross-country team continued its outstanding season Saturday, finishing first out of 18 teams at the Cardinal Classic. The women's team had a notable day as well, with a fourth-place finish.

The Bulldogs had 50 points. In second place was Wayne State with 76 points. Leading the Bulldogs was senior captain Brett Baddorf, who finished third with a time of 25:19. Just behind Baddorf was freshman Andrew Middleton who finished fourth with a time of 25:21. In sixth place was junior Chad Johnson, who ran a 25:26. Sophomore Mark Rowe was 15th running a 25:47. In 22nd place, rounding out the scoring, was sophomore Bryan Baddorf with a time of 26:02. Other men's runners were Mark McBride (24th, 26:08), and Scott Maurer (27th, 26:11).

On the women's side, Wayne State won with 53 points. Eastern Kentucky (69) was second, and UT-Chattanooga (78) was third. The Bulldogs were fourth with 113 points.

Junior Brittney Mensen finished ninth with a time of 18:41.60. Freshman Michelle Brewer was 13th running a 18:47.10. Freshman Jessica Brewer was 22nd with a time of 18:58.50. Sophomore Lauren Floyd finished 33rd with a 19:25.40. Freshman Jessica Jansen (36th) also scored for the Bulldogs with her 19:29.60.

Other runners for Samford were Erin Giesa (41st, 19.40), Connie Heiskell (46th, 19:49.80), Jackie Sharpe (19:59.40), Suzanne Walker (20:14.20) and Jenny Wottle (21:07.90).
