Dr. Metress earned his undergraduate degree in 1985 from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas, and received his Ph.D. in English from Vanderbilt University in 1991. He teaches freshman English and American literature, with a concentration in literature of the South and an emphasis on the Civil Rights movement of the United States.
