ALBANY, NY (October 3, 2003) - The Sacred Heart University women's volleyball lost to Iona College on the first day of the University at Albany Tournament Friday afternoon. The Gaels won in three-straight by scores of 30-17, 30-13 and 30-14. The loss drops the Pioneers to 1-18 on the year while Iona improves to 9-8.
Iona's Emily Mansur posted 13 kills in the win while hitting .480 (13-1-25) for the match. She also led the team with 21 assists and five service aces. Colleen Walker had 12 kills and a team-best .579 (12-1-19) hitting percentage. Ana Brzova recorded a team-best 10 digs.
Sacred Heart struggled offensively with senior Lauren Lamb (West Bloomfield, MI) tallying just six kills to lead all Pioneers. SHU gave Iona 15 points off the serve in the match, recording 15 service errors.
The Pioneers will continue play in the tournament tomorrow when they face Albany at 11 am and Marist at 4 pm.
