Final Stats

FAIRFIELD, CT - Freshman Mydori Saipale (Oxnard, CA) had 16 kills without committing an attack error, while sophomore Alex Bavasi (Flagstaff, AZ) had nine kills with just one error, to lead the Sacred Heart women's volleyball team to a 3-0 win over St. Francis (NY) in the first round of the Sacred Heart Invitational Saturday night.

The Pioneers, now 3-8, won the games 30-19, 30-21 and 30-19.

Junior Kendra Sloan (Fairfax, VA) also had a strong game with 11 kills, as did senior Christine Duffy (Massapequa, NY) with eight kills and eight digs.

St. Francis (NY) was led by Jadelyn Castillo with seven kills and nine digs.

In the first match of the evening, the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore won a 3-2 decision over Providence College. UMES, 7-3, took the first two games of the match 30-17 and 30-18, before PC roared back to take the next two and force a deciding fifth game. UMES came back from a five-point deficit in the final game before winning it 16-14.

The tournament resumes Saturday morning at 10 AM as UMES takes on St. Francis.
