2006 New England Championship Final Results
FAIRFIELD, Conn. (October 16, 2006) - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team finished tied for third place with Providence College at the 2006 New England Women's Tennis Championship held at Fairfield University. The Pioneers finished with 47 points and were behind winner Rhode Island (78) and Fairfield (61).
In the Flight #1 singles draw, junior Pam Pillo (Shelton, CT) advanced all the way to the finals but came up short losing to Lara Maurer of Rhode Island, 6-0, 6-0. Pillo teamed with sophomore Nicole Betz (Long Beach, NY) to take third in the Flight #1 doubles bracket. The duo won their opening match but lost to Maurer and Val Chacon of URI, 8-2, in the second round. The duo rebounded to beat the Providence team of Megan Gilroy and Kerri Shulz, 8-3 in the third place match.
Sophomore Mandy Finkelstein (Portland, CT) picked up a third place finish in the Flight #5 singles draw. Finkelstein beat Amy Garrity of Holy Cross, 6-2, 6-1, but lost to Gabriela Davila of Fairfield in the semifinal round. She posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Manon Guez of Montreal to take third in her bracket.
Finkelstein and teammate Julianne Kasinow (Wall, NJ) finished third in the #2 doubles flight. The duo advance out of the first round but lost their semifinal match to Garrity and Ivette Konopka of Holy Cross, 8-3. The came back to beat Allison Cohen and Ashley Risollo of Providence, 8-3.
Junior Jessica Schnell (Schenectady, NY) won her opening match against Samantha Dircks of Stonehill, 6-2, 6-0. She lost her semifinal match and fell in the third place match to Kristen Meahl of Holy Cross, 6-0, 6-1.

The Pioneers picked up 5th-place wins from Kasinow in the Flight #2 singles draw. She dropped her opening match but rebounded with wins over Konopka, 7-5,6-2, and Daniella Granato of Stonehill, 6-0, 6-0. Betz took 5th in the #3 singles flight with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Kasey Michels of Hartford and win over Meredith Bacon of Holy Cross. Freshman Ashley Amalfe (Clark, NJ) beat Meg Manahan of Holy Cross, 6-1, 6-1, and Delphine Walsh of Montreal, 6-0, 6-0, to take fifth in the #6 singles flight.
