RIVERDALE, NY (October 3, 2003) - The Sacred Heart University women's tennis picked-up their second-straight win this week by defeating Manhattan College, 6-1, in Riverdale, NY Friday afternoon. The Pioneers won five of the six singles points and took the doubles point to win the match. Sacred Heart is now 2-1 on the year while the Jaspers fall to 0-2 in dual match competition.

Leading the way for the Pioneers was freshman Pam Pillo (Shelton, CT) who posted a three-set win at #2 singles and teamed with sophomore Lauren Galatie (Monroe, CT) to win at #1 doubles. Pillo dropped the first set, 6-4, to Shaleen Dastur but rebounded to win easily 6-0 and 6-1 to take the match. Pillo and Galatie combined to beat Jennifer Fowler and Meghan Smith 8-1 in doubles play.

Sophomore Lissa Von Brecht (Cumberland Foreside, ME) and freshman Megan Fonos (Stony Point, NY) teamed to give Sacred Heart a win over Katie Cummings and Jessica Kulack at #3 doubles, 8-2, and take the all important doubles point for the Pioneers. Both Von Brecht and Fonos also won their singles matches, with Von Brecht besting Meghan Smith 6-1, 4-6 (10-7) and Fonos dropping Cummings, 6-4 and 6-3.

Also winning their singles matches were sophomore Darcy Shoop (Rocky Hill, CT) and junior Katelyn Kittredge (Medfield, MA). Shoop beat Aleks Tomaszewska 6-2 and 6-1 at #3 singles while Kittredge rebounded from a 6-0 first set loss to Jessica Kulack to win 6-2 and 6-3 and take her match.

The women are back in action Saturday and Sunday, October 10th and 11th at the Stony Brook Tournament.
