Complete Fairfield Doubles Tournament Results

The Sacred Heart women's tennis team took part in the Fairfield University Doubles Festival on Saturday afternoon, opening up the 2005-06 chedule. The Pioneers took part along with Stony Brook, Providence, Fairfield, UConn, Holy Cross, Albany and Rhode Island competing in doubles matches in a three-flight tournament.

The Pioneer team of senior Lauren Galatie (Monroe, CT) and junior Pam Pillo (Shelton, CT) finished 2-2 in "A" doubles. Pillo and Galatie lost their first match 8-3 to Stony Brook's Hnan Chovanova and Sandy Wijerathe and then to Providence 9-8(2) in the round robin pool play. The duo rebounded to beat Fairfield's Christina Chacharone and Megan Stauffer, 8-3 and then went on to top Ablany 8-5 in the 5th place match.

In "B" doubles, the team of freshman Laura Murillo (Pittsfield, MA)and sophomore Jessica Schnell (Schenectady, NY) lost to Stony Brook 8-2, to Albany, 8-4, and Rhode Island, 8-5 in round robin play but rebounded with an 8-6 win over Holy Cross in the 7th place match.

In the "C" doubles bracket, sophomore Kristina Frassanito (Little Neck, NY) and freshman Nicole Betz (Long Beach, NY) defeated Holy Cross, 8-4.
 

 

The Pioneers return to the courts this Saturday and Sunday at the Rhode Island Duals.
