Landover, MD - The Sacred Heart University women's swimming and diving team traveled to Ladover Maryland to compete in the Northeast Conference Championships this past weekend. After three days of competition the Pioneers finished seventh, out of twelve teams, with a score of 184 points. Gardner-Webb took the title with a score of 611 points.
The tournament consisted of 22 events, each with a preliminary and final round. The Pioneers finished in the top eight, eleven times throughout the preliminary and final rounds. Christine DePierro (Cromwell, CT) qualified for the ECAC Tournament with her times in the 200, 500, and 1650 yard freestyle. DePierro placed eigth in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.62. She also posted two fifth place finishes in the 500 and 1650 yard freestyle, with times of 5:09.77 and 17:52.84.
The Pioneer 800 yard freestyle relay team of DePierro, Christine (Cromwell, CT), Eikeseth, Krystina (Staten Island, NY), Connor, Eileen (Enfield, CT), and Ceglarski, Meghan (Bristol, CT) finished seventh with a time of 8:18.82. The relay team posted an eight place finsih as well, with Dervan, Katie (W. Roxbury, MA) replacing Eikeseth, in the 400 yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:52.77.
Freshmen Schweitzer, Elizabeth (Pottstwon, PA) and Eikeseth, Krystina (Staten Island, NY) had strong performances at the tournament. Schweitzer placed fifth in the 1 meter dive and sixth in the 3 meter dive, with a scores of 173.10 and and 279.80. Eikeseth placed eight in the prelimanary and final rounds in the 200 yard butterfly, with times of 2:16.01, and 2:17.17.

Senior Christine DePeirro has qualified to compete in the ECAC Championships at the University of Pittsburg, which take place February 26-28.
