MILFORD, CT (October 31, 2005) - The Boston College Eagles battled their way back from 15-strokes down heading into Monday's final day to claim the 2005 Sacred Heart Women's Golf Invitational, the inaugural even at the Great River Golf Club in Milford, Connecticut. The host Pioneers finished 10th in the 11 team field.

Rutgers University led after day one with a four-player score of 322, at 15-stroke advantage over the Eagles heading into Monday. The Eagles shot a second day score of 317 led by Emily Cannon who fired a 78 to finish as the two-day individual champion with a 159 (81-78). Lara Smilnak tied for the low round on Monday, firing a 77 over the 18-hole, par-72 course. She was fourth overall with a two-day score of 164 (87-77).

Smilnak was matched by Courtney Richardson of Fairfield University who also shot a 77 and finished third overall (85-77-162). Monmouth's Rae Jonhson was the individual runner-up with a two day scores of 161 (81-80).

The Scarlet Knights were the second place team, three strokes back with a 657 two-day score. Monmouth was third (685), Hartford fourth (692) and Long Island fifth (696).

The was once again set up at 5815 yards on Monday with the weather turning out another afternoon, producing temperatures in the high 60's.

For the Pioneers, freshman Joanne Martorana (Randolph, NJ) had the low score with a 177 (87-90) over 18 holes. Sophomore Lauren Foster (Newington, CT) finished with a 187 (90-87) and junior Kathleen Cummings (Waltham, MA) shot a 190 (88-102). Freshman Jennifer Tierney (Danbury, CT) had an outstanding tournament, playing as an individual. Tierney shot a two-day score of 172 (88-84) including the second lowest one round score of the season for the Pioneers with an 84 this afternoon.
