YAPHANK, NY - The Sacred Heart equestrian team got off to a strong start at the annual St. Joseph's College Intercollegiate Horse Show by qualifying the first two Pioneers for the post-season. Sacred Heart will be represented by the duo of Sara Spagna (Babylon, NY) and team co-captain Kelly McGovern (Cranford, NJ) at the 2005-2006 Zone 2, Region 4 Regional Finals.
Spagna was first to qualify following a 4th place finish in Novice Flat. A three-year team starter, this will be Spagna's first post-season appearance.
Following a first place finish in her Walk-Trot class today, McGovern became the second Sacred Heart rider to qualify for this year's Regional Horse Show. McGovern's win also assured the team of a three-way tie for first place at the end of the competition.
Look for both riders to return to the show ring next weekend at the Fairfield University Intercollegiate Horse Show as they make the move to their new divisions.
