PERRY HILL, MD - The Sacred Heart University women's bowling team competed in the Morgan State Invitational this weekend and a seventh-place finished helped the Pioneers even their season record to 21-21.

Day one of competition consisted of five team games and Sacred Heart won the first game 847-782 over Hampton University. The next two matches were lost to Delaware State University, 896-951, and Central Missouri State University, ranked #3 by the National Tenpin Coaches Association, 835-1031.

The Pioneers came back to win the next two matches, first against Cheney 850-566. The ladies ended the day by shooting their highest game of day to beat Norfolk University 980-594. Sophomore Amanda Lulu and freshman Jamie Manzo helped lead the Pioneers to a 3-2 day with 5-game series of 935 and 931.

Day two of competition consisted of five 3 game baker matches. The Pioneers lost the first set to Bowie State, 531-558, but then had a two match sweep to follow the upset. The second match against Florida A&M was won 527-414 with a high game of 211 and the team then topped the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, 573-383.

The Pioneers lost in match four to the University of Maryland- Eastern Shore, 534-638. The Pioneers saved their best for last but fell to #2 nationally ranked Fairleigh Dickinson University, 725-605.

Amanda Lulu outdid herself during baker games on day two. She found her area and stayed with it all day to strike and spare a majority of the frames. Lulu had help from fellow teammates Diane Raimann and Christina Onderdonk.

Sacred Heart finished in 7th place out of the eighteen schools. This was their best effort of the season finishing behind six of the country's top ten teams. The University of Nebraska - Lincoln won the tournament with Fairleigh Dickinson University just behind them by sixteen pins. Third was New Jersey City University followed by Vanderbilt University and Central Missouri State University. Maryland -Eastern Shore finished sixth.
 

 

The ladies have the next weekend off before traveling for most of March. The Lady Pioneers travel to the Holiday Classic in Bessemer, Alabama week one. Week two, they travel to the ECAC Championship in East Brunswick, New Jersey. Sacred Heart then attends the Music City Classic in Nashville, Tennessee in week three, concluding their regular season.
