Becky Kregling, a USBC Silver Certified Coach, is in her 15th season as the women's bowling coach at Sacred Heart University and was moved to full-time status in 2006.
She has led the Pioneers to the post-season in every year except two, finishing as high as third in the 1998 Intercollegiate Championships. Kregling has helped the Pioneers produce three All-Americans and one National Championship MVP. She was named Eastern Intercollegiate Bowling Conference (EIBC) Coach of the Year twice, in 2001-02 and 2002-03.
She was a member of the NCAA National Women's Bowling Committee from 2003-06, serving as chair for the 2005-06 season. She has been the secretary/treasurer of the New England Bowlers' Association (NEIBA) since 1998, and was elected Vice-President of the Elected VP of the National Tenpin Coaches' Association (NTCA) in March 2006.
Her personal bowling statistics are impressive, competing regularly until 2000. Her career high average was a lofty 232. She has bowled 13 300 games, and has rolled five series of 800 or more during her career - including a career-best 815. She started bowling at age ten and in 1985 was named the Alberta E. Crowe Star of Tomorrow, awarded by the NGB to the best youth (under 21) bowler of the year. In 1986, she won the Women's Sports Foundation Up and Coming Award - the first and only time that award has been given to a bowler. In 1987, she was the National Bowlers' Journal Women's Singles Champion.
In 2007, Kregling became the second woman in the 44- year history of NEBA to win a tournament. Ironically, the first woman is a past SHU player and professional tour champion Jennifer Swanson.
She competed for Bunnell High School in Stratford, CT, winning numerous all-conference awards. She is a member of the Bunnell High School Hall of Fame.
She attended Eckerd College in Florida and earned a BS in Computer Science. She took a semester off during college and competed on the women's professional bowling tour, finishing in the money in six of seven tournaments she entered.
After college she won a spot on Team USA in both 1996 and 1997. During that time she and the team won the 1997 Federation Internaionale des Quilleurs Gold Medal, the 1997 World Team Challenge National Championship, and the 1997 Women's International Bowling Congress Team Championship.
Kregling was elected to the Women's All-Star Association Hall of Fame, winning ten titles during her career.
