The Sacred Heart men and women's cross country teams competed at the Fairfield University Mini-Meet at the Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, Connecticut Saturday afternoon. The full men's team ran while the women rested their top-12 runners as both squads continue to prepare for the upcoming Northeast Conference Championship on October 29th.
The men came up with a thrid place finish among four teams in the race, with their top-seven runners earning 67 points. Southern Connecticut was the top team (22) followed by Hofstra (51). Fairfield finished fourth (108).
Freshman Luis German (Southampton, NY) led the way with a sixth-place finish in a time of 20:48 on the soggy course. Senior Tyler Arnett (Clinton Corners, NY) provided a solid one-two punch at the top, finishing right behind German in 7th at 20:49.
Rounding out the top-seven was sophomore Stephen Zito (Guilford, CT) in 18th (21:49), freshman Joseph Palma (Gladstone, NJ) in 19th (21:52), senior Robert Gill (Braintree, MA) in 20th (21:53), freshman John Kenworthy (Gloversville, NY) in 22nd (22:01) and junior Robert McDermott (Lindenhurst, NY) in 26th (22:20).

On the women's side, senior Kaitlin Clark (Babylon, NY) had a very strong performance clocking in at 16:45 on the 4000-meter course, good for fifth place overall. Fellow senior Kelly Reagan (New Milford, CT) and freshman Caitlin Manchester (Meriden, CT) finished back-to-back in 10th and 11th. Regan was timed at 17:38 and Manchester came in at 17:42.
Rounding out the Pioneer seven was junior Stephanie Oberheim (Woodhaven, NY) in 17th (18:00), sophomore Amanda McLaughlin (Stony Point, NY) in 18th (18:01), sophomore Jessica Phelan (Wantagh, NY) in 19th (18:02) and junior Lauren DellaVolpe (Danbury, CT) in 21st (18:09).
Both Pioneer teams will compete next weekend at the Collegiate Track Conference Championship in Center Valley, PA.
