FAIRFAX, VA - Freshman Cory Dunn and junior Kevin Fox picked up first round victories for the Sacred Heart University wrestling team in the Colonial Athletic Association Championships today.
Dunn, at 141 pounds, defeated Kelin Bidelspach of Campbell, 10-1, in his first match. He was face the #4 seed, Ryan Williams of Old Dominion in the second round tonight.
Fox, the #6 seed at 197 pounds, pinned Rob Yoder of Campbell in just 46 seconds to earn his first win. He will take on #3 seeded David Mendoza of Old Dominion next.
In other action, Chris Davis lost his bout at 149 pounuds to #3 Kyle Fried of Binghamton. He will next face the loser of the match between #4 Mike Roberts of BU and #5 Mark Cartella of Drexel in the next match of the double-elimination tournament.
Rich Nappi lost by technical fall at 165 pounds to #5 Rob Morrison of Rider. He will face either #3 Tyler Tisdell of George Mason or #6 CJ Inglin of Boston University next.
Jed Giguere lost his opening match at 174 pounds to Andrew Detwiler of BU, 4-3. He now awaits the loser of the match between Ivan Lagares of James Madison and #2 Doug Umbehauer of Rider in the next round.
Senior Payam Zarrinpour, the top seed at heavyweight for the Pioneers, received a bye in the first round. He will face Jim Connors of BU tonight.
