FAIRFAX, VA - Senior heavyweight Payam Zarrinpour won his first round match by fall in just :34 seconds to stay in the championship flight and help the Sacred Heart wrestling team to fifth place after the first day of the Colonial Athletic Association Championships Friday.
Hofstra stands in first place with 46 points, follwed by Old Dominion (28.5), Rider (26.5) and Drexel (22.0). The Pioneers are tied with George Mason with 15.5 points.
Zarrinpour, the top seed, defeated Jim Connors of Boston University in the first round. He will face #4 Matt Pellar of Old Dominion in the second round.
Andrew Silber is also still in the championship round after defeating Cory Waite of Binghamton by technical fall in the first match. He will face the top seed, Joe Rovelli of Hofstra, in the nex round today.
Cory Dunn, who won his first-round match at 141 pounds, lost in the second to #4 Ryan Williams of Old Dominion and will face Mostafa Ibrahim of George Mason in the consolation bracket today. Kevin Fox won his first match at 197, but lost to David Mendoza of Old Dominion in the second. He will face James Bartley of James Madison today.
