FAIRFIELD, CT (June 1, 2004) - Sacred Heart University men's assistant tennis coach Jim Biggs was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year announced Tuesday afternoon.

Biggs was an instrumental part in helping guided the men and women's teams to their best finish ever in the Northeast Conference tournament this spring. The Pioneer men advanced to the NEC Championship for the first time in school history and finished second place overall, placing four players on the All-NEC team. The women finished third overall in the final NEC standings.

By winning the award for the northeast region, he was one of eight finalists for the ITA's National Assistant Coach of the Year award.

"Jim has been a great addition to our program the last five years and his vast knowledge and experience in the game has been a tremendous help to all of us associated with Pioneer tennis," stated head coach Mike Guastelle. "His easy going demeanor and professionalism has set a great example for our student-athletes".
