FAIRFIELD, CT (May 19, 2004) - The Sacred Heart men's tennis team placed four players on the All-Northeast Conference Second Team announced Wednesday afternoon. Senior Pat Darragh (Bayport, NY), junior Alex Kantarelis (Worcester, MA) and sophomore Peter George (Lynnfield, MA) all earned all spot on the second team for their singles play. Darragh and fellow senior Jeff Bowers (Naugatuck, CT) along with George and Kantarelis were selected for their doubles play this season.

For 2004 NEC Tournament runner-up Sacred Heart, George finished 9-6 overall and 3-1 in league play at #4 singles. Competing at #5 singles, Darragh led the Pioneers with 11 victories and compiled an 11-6 mark in 2003-04. He was also 5-1 on the conference circuit. Kantarelis was another important factor is Sacred Heart's ascension this past season, and concluded the year with a 10-8 record at #6 singles, including a 4-3 mark versus NEC opposition.

SHU earned all-conference recognition at the remaining the #2 and #3 doubles flights. Darragh and Bowers closed out 2003-04 with an 11-7 record at #2 doubles for the Pioneers. The experienced duo went 5-2 when pitted against league foes. At the #3 flight, George teamed with junior Kantarelis to post a 7-1 record for the Pioneers and amassed a perfect 4-0 mark in NEC matches.
