Dec. 18, 2003

Fairfield, CT (December 18, 2003) - Sacred Heart University men's golf coach Michael Giaquinto announced that Patrick Fillian (Shark River, NJ) and Thomas Campbell (Wall, NJ) have signed National Letters of Intent to attend Sacred Heart University beginning in the fall of 2004.

Fillian attended St. Rose High School in Belmar, NJ. "He has a solid work ethic, which is almost as impressive as his 35.0 scoring average per nine holes in his JR Year of high school, "said Giaquinto. In the summer of '03 Fillian had a strong showing at the qualifier for the U.S. Junior Amateur Tournament, where he shot 71, 73 and missed qualifying by just one stroke.

Campbell attended Wall High School in Wall, NJ, which is a perennial golf power in the state of New Jersey. Campbell, who is coming off a summer that included playing in Florida, New York, and New Jersey where he captured the Rutgers Junior Open, which is a three day marathon for junior golfers in New Jersey. He won the tournament with a 69 in the second round and by shooting par on the last six holes of the day. "Work ethic, competitive, and drive are the words that come to mind when discussing Campbell," said Giaquinto.

"These are two fine young men who have a mutual respect for each other - they are very good friends and a drive that you just don't witness every day from a seventeen or eighteen year old," coach Giaquinto said. "We have high expectations for the two of these young men to make an impact on our program both on and off the course. We are so pleased that they chose Sacred Heart University as their home."
