FAIRFIELD, CT (January 26, 2004) - When Men's Head Coach Michael Giaquinto and Women's Head Coach Jamie Romeo got together for a round of golf this summer the topic of the day revolved around how to build the premier men's and women's golf program in the Northeast. With the acquisition of Tom Rosati, Head PGA Professional at Great River Golf Club the Pioneers have taken another gigantic step in the that direction.

Rosati, who is rated as one of the Top Five teaching professionals in Connecticut and was nominated for teacher of the year by the CT PGA, is excited about joining the staff. "I am ecstatic that Sacred Heart University asked me to part of their upstart golf program," Rosati said. "Coaching at the Division I level has always been a goal of mine - I am excited to have the opportunity to contribute to the program and continue to build upon the tradition that has been established with Coaches Giaquinto and Romeo."

"Tom is a top-notch instructor who has a gift for communicating the game to players on a number of levels." Director of Golf/Head Men's Golf Coach, Michael Giaquinto said. "This is a monumental step for our program and just demonstrates the administrations' commitment to providing the best experience for our student athletes. Great programs pay attention to the details and that's what we are doing here."

They have also enlisted the services of Jeff Cavaliere, Physical Therapist and a leading Golf Fitness Specialist. Cavaliere has studied the game extensively from a biomechanical perspective since receiving his Masters degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Connecticut in rehabilitation from golf induced low back injury. Jeff, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and creator of www.progolffitness.com, has written for Golf Magazine and various internet publications, contributing his much sought after training insights into golf specific fitness and rehabilitation.

With a large clientele of professional and nonprofessional athletes alike, Jeff has established himself in the industry with his unique approach to training for golf. "In this day and age of superior ball design and cutting edge drivers and irons, I would argue that unless the body is prepared to play this game, we are not even close to taking full advantage of this new technology," says Cavaliere. "A golf specific conditioned body is the single most important thing you can bring with you to the first tee to improve your game."

With Rosati in place, the Pioneers will be exposed to some of the finest quality instruction, technology, and mental conditioning of the game in the nation. This also shows the University's committed to the golf programs with the addition of a third coach. Michael Giaquinto is the Director of Golf/Head men's Golf Coach. Jamie Romeo is the Director of Operations/Head Women's Golf Coach and Tom Rosati is the Director of Instruction. "This collaborative effort with the three coaches, the two programs, and the dedication to golf fitness just provides our student athletes with the best possible experience." Giaquinto concluded.
