NEW HAVEN, Conn. (October 9, 2007) - The Sacred Heart men's golf team took five strokes off their first round score on Saturday to finish tied for 11th overall at the Yale MacDonald Cup. The Pioneers shot a 304 on Sunday, giving them a two-day total of 613 (309-304) at the University's golf course.
The Pioneers tied with Columbia in 11th but where just a stroke behind IUPUI in 10th and two-strokes in back of Rutgers and Towson in eighth. TCU held off host Yale to win the event with a two-day score of 573.
SHU's top-four was led by junior Matt Belizze (North Salem, NY) who slashed two-strokes off his 76 on Saturday for a final round 74 and a 29th place finish. Sophomore Adam Petrasovic (Tecumseh, Ontario) finished 33rd after shooting 74 and 77 on the par 70, 6,749 yard course.
The key move for SHU was senior Patrick Fillian (Tinton Falls, NJ) who bounced back from an 81 on Saturday to shot a 75 on Sunday, vaulting him into a 68th place tie with teamate Kevin Lauretti (Newington, CT). Lauretti shot matching 78's at the event.
The Pioneers are right back in action this weekend at the ECAC Championship in Charleston, Rhode Island at the Shelter Harbor Golf Club.
