NEC Championship Day 1 Release and Results

ORLANDO, FL (May 6, 2006) - The Sacred Heart men's golf team fired a 308 on day one of the Northeast Conference Championship leaving the Pioneers just six strokes behind leader St. Francis (PA) with 18 holes to play on Sunday.

SHU rookie Mark Metcalf (Foxboro, MA) shot a two-over 74 on the 6,802 yard par 72 Disney Palm Golf Course in Orlando, Florida. Metcalf is tied with Central Connecticut's Tim Buczak in second, two strokes behind Steve Foley of SFPA (72).

Junior Ryan Leahey (Orange, CT) fired a first round 76, four strokes over. Sophomore Tommy Campbell (Wall, NJ) and freshman Matthew Belizze (North Salem, NY) both shot 79 on Saturday, leaving them tied for 21st overall.

The final round of the 2006 NEC Men's Golf Championship commences on Sunday, May 7 beginning at 7:20 a.m.
