Day two of the 2007 NEC Men's Golf Championship concluded this afternoon at the Sea Trail Golf Resort in Sunset Beach, NC. Sacred Heart moved into first place overall after firing a ten-over-par 298, giving the Pioneers a two-day score of 596.
First day leader Monmouth fell to second place after shooting 306 on the day, as the Hawks are just five strokes off the pace at 601. Robert Morris and Saint Francis (PA) enter day three tied for third place at 602, as the teams recorded rounds of 296 and 305, respectively. Long Island remains in the hunt in fifth place at 604, while Central Connecticut State posted the best team score on day two as the Blue Devils shot 294 to jump up to sixth place overall, just nine strokes off the lead.
Sacred Heart has been led by juniors Patrick Fillian (Tinton Falls, NJ/Purdue) (74-73-147) and Tom Campbell (Wall, NJ/Wall) (72-75-147), who are tied for third place in the individual standings. Sophomore Matt Bellizze (North Salem, NY/North Salem) has also been a standout for the Pioneers, as he has carded a 148 (75-73) through the first two rounds of competition.
Day three of the 2007 NEC Men's Golf Championship will commence at 7:27 a.m. on Sunday. The conference championship is a three-day, 54-hole event. Team scores are calculated by adding the team's four lowest scores from each day. The top-10 finishers are selected as all-NEC performers.
