URI Newport Northwest Invitational Results

PORTSMOUTH, RI (May 4, 2006) - The Sacred Heart men's golf team finished 10th at this past weekend's University of Rhode Island Newport Northwest Invitational. The Pioneers shot a team score of 669 (329-340) in their final tune-up before this weekend's Northeast Conference Championships in Orlando, Florida.

The event was held at the Green Valley Country Club in Portsmouth, Rhode Island over Saturday and Sunday, April 29th and 30th. Binghamton took home the team title with a score of 611 (312-299).

The Pioneers top golfer was junior Ryan Leahey (Orange, CT) who shot an 81 and 84 on the 6,830 yard par 71 course to finish tied with three other golfers for 35th overall.

Freshman Matthew Belizze (North Salem, NY) finshed up just behind Lahey, shooting and 82 and 86 at the two day event to finish tied for 39th overall.

The Pioneers will travel to Orlando this weekend for the two-day NEC event to be held at Disney's Palm Golf Course in lake Buena Vista, Florida.
