Jamie Romeo, of Bridgeport, CT enters his fourth year as head coach of the Sacred Heart University women's golf team and has also assumed the role of Director of Golf Operations for both the men's and women's programs. Along with his new title he has assumed responsibilities that include serving as recruiting coordinator for both programs as well as handled the scheduling responsibilities for the women's program and assisting in every other aspect of coaching.
In his short tenure with the program, Romeo has proven his ability to recruit and organize a program that has some of the finest resources in the Northeast. Last year Romeo was able to put a roster of players together that had the energy, focus, and attitude to strive for success, which is a direct reflection of their coach. In his short term as coach, Romeo has already changed the face of Pioneer women's golf and has a vision to compete for the Northeast Conference Championship in the near future.
Romeo has worked closely with Michael Giaquinto, Director of Golf/Men's Head Coach, to arrange a working relationship with one of the premier golf facilities in the Northeast, Great River Golf Club. They have also landed one of the premier teaching professionals in the Northeast, Tom Rosati, who serves as the Director of Pioneer Golf Instruction. In addition to his newfound coaching responsibilities, Rosati is the Head PGA Professional at Great River Golf Club.
Romeo also works as the Director of Graduate Admissions for the University, where he shows an attitude to contribute to the goals of the athletic department, the Pioneer Golf Program, and the lives of all students at Sacred Heart University.
After just picking up the game of competitive golf in the past five years Romeo has been as low as a nine handicap. He was better known as a baseball player in the mid-1990s as a pitcher for the University of Connecticut at Avery Point and Sacred Heart University. He had a reputation for being a workhorse who logged a great deal of innings.
Born September 4, 1973, he is the son of Donald and Marie Rome. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Sacred Heart University and is currently finishing his Masters of Arts in Teaching Degree. His interests outside of golf include a love of travel, reading, sports, and other outdoor activities.
