TRUMBULL, CT - Freshman Vin Avella drove in four runs and blasted his seventh homer of the season, while junior starter Joe Testa (Brick, NJ)pitched seven scoreless innings to lead the Wagner College Seahawks to an 11-1 win over Sacred Heart University in a Northeast Conference game Friday afternoon.

Avella got the scoring started for Wagner with a homer over the left field fence to give the Seahawks a 1-0 lead in the second inning off SHU starter Chris Howard (Ghent, NY). The Seahawks made it 3-0 in the top of the fourth on a two-run single by Ed Sudol that scored Pete Delleani, who led off the frame with a single, and Matt Mastrianni, who reached on an error by the Pioneer shortstop.

Wagner loaded the bases with one out in the fifth inning with three straight singles. Avella then made it 6-0 with a bases-clearing double to left center. The Seahawks tacked on another run in the top of the sixth. After back-to-back singles to start the inning, Damian Csakai sacrificed the runs over and senior Joe DiGeronimo lifted a sacrifice fly to center to make it 7-0.

The Seahawks got two more in the eighth on RBI singles by Csakai and DiGeronimo off reliever George Lamar (Briarcliff, NY).

Meanwhile, Testa cruised through his seven innings. He allowed five Pioneer hits, but three of those came with the bases empty and two outs. He struck out six and walked two.

The Pioneers, 19-23 overall and 9-7 in the NEC, finally got on the board in the ninth off Wagner reliever Kevin Payne on an RBI single by Phil Tantillo (Blue Point, NY) that scored Jason Maiella (N. Haledon, NJ) who had led off the inning with a single.
