The Third Annual Sacred Heart University Department of Athletics Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, October 1st at the Great River Golf Club in Milford, CT. All net proceeds will benefit the General Athletics Fund and the Athletics Endowed Scholarship Fund at Sacred Heart University, both administered under the auspices of the Pioneer Club.

The festivities begin at 11:00 a.m., with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. Prizes will be awarded in several categories and the tournament will be played in a scramble format. The Coca-Cola Bottling Company of New England will return as the events presenting sponsor again this year.

Great River Golf Club is the Northeast's premier semi-private golf club. Designed by Tommy Fazio, the golf course is challenging and awe-inspiring. In 2005 Great River was named #2 Top Rated Golf Course in the State of Connecticut and ranked #34 on America's 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses List by Golf Digest Magazine.

Thanks to the generosity of Pioneer friends and supporters, last year's tournament raised over $9,000 for our General Athletic Scholarship and General Athletic Funds - all directly benefiting and making a positive impact on the student-athletic experience at Sacred Heart University.

The 2006-07 academic years provided some of our most memorable moments to date in Division I with numerous single season and career milestones achieved for both our student-athletes and coaches alike. The wrestler who achieved All-American status, the women's basketball player who set the career scoring record, the football player who entered an NFL training camp and the equestrian rider who qualified for nationals each represented the best our over 800 student-athletes had to offer.

In addition, our combined men and women's programs finished second and our women's programs finished first overall in the 2006-07 Northeast Conference Commissioner's Cup standings, emblematic of overall athletic achievement and success in the 21 sports offered by the NEC.
