Women's Golf Finishes Play in Hawaii

The Santa Clara women's golf team persevered through howling winds that reached up to 50 mph during Tuesday's final round of competition to card a round of 334 at the Kent Youel Invitational at Kapolei Golf Course. "We hit some great shots today but the wind really played havoc on the players today," head coach Polly Schulze said. "But we're not going to get discouraged. We're going to go into our next tournament at Cal Poly looking to post some good scores and come back strong there." Megan Stoddart posted the low score of the day for the Broncos as she carded a final round total of 80 to give her a three-round tally of 231, good for 18th place in a stacked field. Candice Palmer also battled through the winds to shoot an 81 for the final round, while Corey Utsurogi closed out her tournament with an 83 on Tuesday. Eriko Sato shot 90 for the day while Samantha Trask carded a 91. Southern California took the team honors Tuesday as the Women of Troy completed a six-stroke victory over second-place Stanford. Kelly Husted of the Cardinal took individual honors as her three-round total of 212 was nine strokes better than the runner-up, Irene Cho of USC. The Broncos return to the links this Monday as they travel to Arroyo Grande to compete in the Cal Poly Invitational. Santa Clara will seek to make another strong showing at the tournament as Trask comes in as the event's defending champion.
